Software Features

Read Quick  features 11 Learning Centers with 126 independent, interactive lessons that are voiced and visual to help students master reading.  Older readers and adults will find age appropriate lessons while learning elementary basic decoding skills.

Below is a copy of the actual "Homepage" as it appears on the software with one exception; Combinations D (Step 1) have been edited for privacy rights.  All lessons are directly accessed through this Homepage.

Read Quick software is a private tutor for most students and requires very little adult monitoring.  Learning Centers A, B, C, D and H are explanations and lessons for the 3 steps.  Other lessons are strategies to the 3 steps for developing accuracy and speed.

Older readers may require some, but not all lessons.  Each student will have a different learning curve for some applications usually eliminated by practice marking words and reading.

All Lessons are VOICED & VISUAL.

  • 7,300 words with individual sounds and words voiced;
  • 47 Combinations - individual & in words;
  • Borrowers - C, G, & Y - Rules;
  • Vowels - Long & Short with rules;
  • 12 Prefixes with long vowels &  suffixes;
  • 50,000 Dictionary words with individual sounds voiced. Not all Dictionary words are voiced; only voiced if part of the 7,300 words.
  • 31 Short Stories ( Reading levels 1-10) for practice; voiced & visual. Words in story may be clicked and marked on page and in story;
  • Sight words;
  • Personal, programmable word list center;
  • Each lesson is taught by: "See & Hear" - "See & Say" - "See & Do" to provide every type of learner with the best learning method.

Combination chart may be accessed as needed in Homeroom or by a "drop down" menu. Chart automatically drops down after user visits Center D - Lesson 1, Combination Chart and may be removed by clicking on screen or used.

Blends are spelled and pronounced in words but are not part of the marking system because they are consistent, like the alphabet.  Learning Center is also viewed on a drop down menu while marking a word, if requested by user.  Starting in Learning Center H, all 3 steps are practiced and blends are in green.  When green blend is clicked, sound is given just like Combinations.

First topic in "SETUP" menu gives specific instructions on using the 'Multi-user Mode' for monitoring more than one student.

Teacher or parent may select a slower process for computer response by clicking that option on "SETUP" menu. This option included for use as needed.

IMPORTANT:  Tutoring help is suggested during each Learning Center visit. Users must click on ‘tutor’ if it does not start automatically. This feature may be eliminated on each visit after mastery of that lesson.

After hearing automatic introduction, the "HELP" menu should be reviewed by parent or teacher to see the suggested Learning Sequence.

Requiring words to be marked is designed to encourage student to try marking so they do not "drift" past the lesson. After marking, student will be told if it is not correct, "Try Again". If second try is incorrect, computer marks word correctly for student. This prevents frustration but requires some student effort to learn.

All reading sounds are taught in a word and in isolation for visual and auditory memory.

Lessons are intended to be visited and revisited, as needed, for mastery.
