"PULL
OUT PROGRAMS"
have
NOT demonstrated to be permanently beneficial. When student returns to the classroom,
if
the "classroom
teacher" is not a strong "reading teacher"
the "pull-out student" fails to maintain growth provided by
"pull out
reading teacher".
Read Quick
offers a distinct advantage for schools and districts. Any teacher, in any subject, would have the same
strengths as the remedial teacher for 'decoding' skills and all
students, regardless of their age or reading ability, would have
continuing reinforcement of the reading process.
How
Does Read Quick
Comply with the
Basic
Requirements for a
Successful
Intervention
Program?
~
Teaches
a simple but comprehensive decoding system that allows logic, Right Brain, ESL,
special needs and remedial students in middle school, high school and adult
education to rapidly learn how to decode words for
reading fluency.
~
Spellings and natural speech sounds are so accurate, speech therapists in public
schools find the 3-Step system a tremendous asset in their speech
lessons.
~
Student
Bookmarkers and/or
copies of the Combination Chart provide
students with constant
reinforcement
of the entire
system
while doing any activity with words; reading, spelling, taking a test,
etc.
~
This
3-Step system decodes over 90% of English words.
Most words that reading experts
say are non phonetic, (because they use syllables), are controlled by this
system and phonetically pronounced; eliminating reader frustration when
meeting one of the “non phonetic” words.
REMEMBER
-
ALL
sounds of a letter, letter cluster, or a word are "phonic".
This should not be
confused with a Phonic Reading Program that teaches syllables and only decodes
75% of the words phonetically.
When using syllables, the "best" rule taught is the double vowel
rule that is accurate only 44% of the time. Some rules are only
accurate 9-15% of the time.
-
Read
Quick Interactive
Software - contains everything for learning basic decoding skills.
Lessons are voiced, visual and age appropriate; nothing too elementary or too
advanced.
-
Teacher's
Guide
- contains enough information for anyone to conduct a productive
reading group.
All
students in this group should read orally as often as possible with
appropriate discussion and group application of the 3 steps.
-
Worksheet
masters
- for all lessons are available in
a packet that may be reproduced to provide students with transition from
software to performance in a natural and effective manner.
-
Transition Packets
- contain paragraphs and short stories by reading level, with words marked
using the Read Quick marking process, serves several purposes. The most
important is the transition from computer to print to rapidly develop visual
memory for each component of the system for reading fluency. This part of
the program has been amazingly effective with the target group, especially
dyslexic students.
-
Bookmarkers
(laminated 3" x
8" cards) - contain the entire 3-Step program
to be used at school and/or home. This is a constant "tutor" for
every student.
Lower functioning students will especially benefit from this and other
features in the program.
-
Combination Flashcards
- are another visual memory feature students can practice with
anyone.
-
Wall Charts for Classroom (12"
x 18") - Six wall charts contain:
Combinations,
3-Step system w/Borrowers, Vowels w/Rules, Blends, 12 Prefixes w/long
vowels & Suffixes. All may be used as a constant reminder
for reading and
spelling.
Any
reading material is a reading textbook when using Read
Quick.
The reading material provides story content and Read Quick provides the decoding system,
supplying students with the reinforcement and practice
needed to overcome their reading deficiency.
Read
Quick's 3-Steps is the exact system used for spelling; precisely reciprocal,
eliminating the need for a different marking system for spelling. This
provides the target group with decoding and spelling skills constantly
reinforced.
System
decodes 90% of all easy to advanced words in English, allowing user to read
college level materials.
